Wargrave CC picked up a morale-boosting victory over Amersham CC on Saturday as they won by 19 runs in Home Counties Division 2.
The visitors won the toss and elected to field first, bowling Wargrave out for a reasonable 145 in 44.2 overs.
The total was chiefly obtained by Mishan Silva’s (52) resistance, Sraven Konidena’s (29) efforts, and Imran Malik’s (15) hard work with the bat, with all three men succumbing to the steadfast bowling of Amersham’s Michael Payne (5-44).
Having done the business with the ball, Amersham’s batsmen took to the crease relatively confident that Wargrave’s target could be reached.
However, despite Chris Fleming’s (35) and Michael Payne’s (56) best attempts, Wargrave’s fielding was focused to ensure the two batsmen were the only ones to reach double figures. Rhodri Lewis (5-37) was deservedly lauded praise at the end of the second innings for his bowling.
Amersham managed 126-10 in 39.3 overs. They remain third in the table while Wargrave sit in fifth.
In Division 1, Datchet CC settled on a stalemate at Oxford CC which puts them third in the table.
Having been put into bat, the visitors managed 139-9 dec in 38 overs, with Rahul Wijeratne (41) and wicket-keeper Joseph Thomas (27) scoring well in the middle order.
And Datchet managed to get their hosts seven wickets down in their reply, only for Oxford to squeeze home a share of the spoils with Barney Carey making up 24 of their 91 runs from 32 overs.
The seven points awarded to Oxford are not enough to shift them out of the bottom three of the division.
