Slough CC took pole position in Home Counties Division 2 on Saturday having defeated local rivals, and bottom-placed, Burnham CC by one wicket on Saturday.
Having lost the toss, Nadeem Syed’s men were forced to field but took advantage of their home turf to bowl their visitors all out for 106 runs in 36.2 overs.
Burnham struggled to create any meaningful partnerships as the bulk of their players were unable to get into double digits with the bat. Sulaiman Javed (34) and Raminder Singh (30) recorded solid figures, but Slough’s bowling proved much too difficult for the rest of the team to overcome.
Raja Ikhlaq Nawaz (4-43) and skipper Syed (3-47) picked up the best figures with the ball, ensuring the hosts had a reachable target come the second innings. However, Slough’s run chase was not as straightforward as they would have liked.
Much like last week’s performance against Amersham, Kamran Younas (8) and Yaqoot Rafiq (5) both fell cheaply to the back-and-forth bowling of Shakil Ahmed and Shaan Khan.
Such a strategy proved futile for the Lincoln brothers however, as Josh (19) and wicket-keeper Dan (27) gave Slough some inspiration. Aashir Zaib’s contribution of 12 later down the line helped the side get over the line and secure victory in 38.4 overs with 107-9.
The result lifts Syed’s men into first place in the table, four points above Oxford Downs CC. Slough travel to Chesham CC on Saturday. Burnham face fifth-placed Wargrave this weekend.
The race to get as many people vaccinated against coronavirus has ramped up in the Royal Borough and Slough amidst an ongoing rise in cases across the country.
