Isthmian League's 'Golden Gloves' award finally goes to Marlow stopper

Following an exceptional run last month with his side not conceding a single goal, Marlow FC’s goalkeeper Simon Grant has picked up the ‘Golden Glove’ award for September.

The stopper was overlooked for the prize earlier in the season but, staying true to his word, Grant kept his head down, focused on the game, and eventually got his reward.

“We were all confused, and still are, at how we didn't win it the first time,” said Grant.

“But you've got to use disappointment to come back stronger.

“Keeping clean sheets was our main focus and this award is just a biproduct of that achievement.

“It’s me that will receive all the accolades but I couldn’t do it without the players in front of me who work hard and make my job easier.

“It’s a real team effort, and it’s also good it’s backed up by Mark (Bartley) winning Manager of the Month aswell.”

Blues goalkeeper coach praised Grant on Twitter: “We do our work in the shade but take the spotlight when it arrives. Congrats to @Granty_1991, the whole Marlow FC squad and backroom staff on an unbelievable record so far this season.

“Only the start, lots of hard work to come. Just need the gaffer, @markusbartley, to get MOTM.”

Jordan Blake, first team coach, added: “Congrats @Granty_1991, fully deserved but I know you’ll be the first to mention the 10 players in front of you. In big moments you’ve made some top saves. Long may it continue.”
