After the torrential rain of the week before, conditions were ideal for Marlow Men's 1sts' 4-1 win over Eastcote on Saturday.
It took the visitors a while to get accustomed to the pitch at Eastcote, and the hosts took the lead in the 20th minute, carving Marlow open through the centre of their defence.
However, within five minutes they were back level thanks to a good finish from Chris Sewell and the league leaders didn't look back from there.
Having refocused and re-organised the defence at half-time, Marlow took control after the interval with Sewell grabbing his second of the game in the 45th minute. Ben Lazarevic chipped in with a sublime assist for Lewis Goodman to get on the scoresheet in the 63rd minute and Sewell rounded off the scoring with five minutes to go, completing his second hat-trick in seven days.
The win keeps the side on top of the South Central Premier League 2 table and on course for the title.
With players stranded in France and others out injured, Marlow Men's 2nds had a depleted squad for the visit of league leaders Staines 2nds on Saturday. However, they produced their most competent and complete performance of the season to beat them 2-0 with goals from Tom O'Docherty and Sam Burroughs.
With Burroughs making his 2nds debut and Chris Jackson returning to the fold, the hosts showed no fear as they took the game to their opponents from the outset.
Gradually they gained the upper hand, and, in the second half, they took the lead when O’Docherty scored from a yard out to finish off a well-worked team goal.
Staines looked to respond, but the more they pushed the more dangerous Marlow looked on the counterattack.
Burroughs was outstanding in defence while the youngest player in the side, Matty Gillespie, shone and was a constant thorn in the Staines side.
A second goal deservedly followed when Burroughs swept the ball home with a reverse stick-shot from a short-corner.
Other results saw the 3rds lose 3-2 to Wycombe 2nds, before beating Milton Keynes 2nds 5-0 on Sunday. The 4ths were beaten 5-0 away by Witney 2nds and the 5ths lost 6-1 to Leighton Buzzard. The 6ths drew 3-3 with Slough Despondents and the 7ths were beaten 3-1 away at South Berks 6ths.
The women’s first team saw their game postponed at the weekend, however, the 2nd teams 1-1 draw at Reading 3rds was good enough to keep them top of the table.
The 3rds also drew 1-1 at Amersham & Chalfont 2nds while the 4ths lost 3-1 to Milton Keynes 2nds. The 5ths beat Reading Riots 4-1 away and the 7ths were 6-0 winners over Windsor Development.
On Sunday Marlow Girls’ u16s took on Beeston in Nottinghamshire in the semi-finals of the national u16s competition. They lost the game 4-1 but did brilliantly to reach the final four of the national competition.
More than 50 street parties are set to take place this weekend across the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and the surrounding areas.
An independent report into a Conservative councillor has found a breach of the Royal Borough’s code of conduct in a document seen by the Advertiser.
