Final phase of Windsor footbridge works gets underway

The final phase of works to finish the ‘extensive’ refurbishment of a footbridge in Windsor town centre got underway this week.

The refurbishment works look to connect the Coach Park to Windsor town centre for pedestrians.

Preparatory works for the final phase kicked off on Tuesday, January 2 and the bridge will be fully closed for around 17 weeks while the refurbishment takes place.

Signposted alternative routes and lift access are in place from the Coach Park to the town centre and Windsor Castle.

Access to all businesses is also being maintained throughout the works.

Following concerns raised by local businesses about the impact of the footbridge closure on trade over the festive season, in September 2023, Windsor and Maidenhead Council decided to divide the refurbishment into two phases, avoiding the Christmas period.

Phase one of the works, involving the refurbishment of bridge lift, has been completed.

This final phase of works include cleaning and repainting the steel bridge structure, preventative maintenance and anti-corrosion works.

The works will also feature the installation of new bridge lighting, cleaning the Perspex canopy, and putting a mirror film on the underside of the canopy.

The footbridge and lift are closed to the public during the works and enclosed in scaffolding, due to the proximity to the working railway platform.
