Windsor FC suffer third league defeat on another Ard night at Stag Meadow

Windsor suffered their third league defeat of the season on Tuesday as they were beaten 3-2 in their own backyard by Ardley United.

Windsor didn’t have a game at the weekend following their exit from the FA Vase but the extra few days rest didn’t help them at Stag Meadow on Tuesday night.

Interim boss Luke Brooks-Smith’s side will be kicking themselves as well, having twice taken the lead in the first half through Jay O’Connell.

However Ardley pegged them back before the break before scoring the winner through Barney in the 84th minute.

It’s been a trying few weeks for the Royalists, who looked to have bagged their second league win last week before conceding late to draw 3-3 with Virginia Water.

Brook-Smith’s side sit 15th in the table, a point and a place above Burnham, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Tuffley Rovers.

“Yeah it was disappointing,” said Brooks-Smith.

“There wasn’t so much we could do about the third goal but their first and second came from errors we made.

“If those hadn’t been made I’m sure we could have been pushing for the win.

“Their first goal has wrong-footed our goalkeeper and nine times out of 10 he would have saved it.

“Tuffley away on Saturday will be tough, but if it hadn’t been for late goals we’d have beaten Virginia Water last week and have taken a draw on Tuesday.”

On the process of finding a new boss to replace him and take the club forward, Brooks-Smith added: “Interviews have been taking place this week and more are taking place tonight (Thursday).

"It’s not down to me but it looks like a decision will be made in the next couple of days.

“Whoever is chosen it will then be down to them to see if they can start immediately, or if they need a week or two to get things in order.”
