Flasher who drove around Windsor naked is sentenced

A serial flasher who drove around Windsor naked has been given a suspended prison sentence for indecent exposure.

Mark Dyer, of The Chantrys, Farnham, Surrey, was discovered in a Windsor car park on April 4 last year after exposing his genitals to a member of the public.

The 49-year-old denied the charge at a hearing on May 17, but was found guilty by a jury at Reading Crown Court on December 6. He was sentenced at Reading Crown Court sitting at Reading Magistrates Court yesterday.

The court heard how Dyer had previously been convicted of three similar offences, for which he received two cautions, and that he was a member of the Naturist Society.

Speaking at the sentencing, Judge Angela Morris said: "You have remained out of trouble for seven years and it seems to me the Thames Valley Sex Offenders programme had considerable benefit to yourself.

"It is only a shame that you have joined a society that appears to have given you the idea that driving around naked on public roads was alright, clearly you understand it is not."

She added: "The Naturist Society is a legitimate society but you have to take responsibility for your actions and the affect it has on other people."

It was revealed that Dyer had a 'decent job' earning £27,000 a year and was financially supporting his son, but had racked up a number of debts.

Dyer received a four month prison sentence suspended for 18 months, as well as a supervision requirement and an order to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years.

Judge Morris added: "I want to make your position clear that should any incident like this happen in the future, I have no doubt whatsoever you will go to prison."

Dyer was ordered to pay £1,000 towards the cost of the trial within the next 12 months.
