The go-ahead has been given for a new day nursery on the site of the old Roman Catholic Church in Old Windsor.
But the decision by Royal Borough planning councillors yesterday to allow the nursery following the demolition of Our Lady of Lourdes was fiercely opposed by Cllr Malcolm Beer (Independent, Old Windsor) who voted against it.
Afterwards he said that he and fellow village councillor Lynne Jones thought a nursery on the site would be 'horrendously dangerous' as parents came and went on the busy road.
Councillors had dropped an earlier condition for allowing the nursery in St Luke's Road, which would have insisted on parking restrictions.
Cllr Beer said: "I can see this putting people off using the shops round here because of the awkwardness caused by parents coming and going and clogging all the parking up in the area. It could potentially be a real disaster."
