Four bantam chickens have been saved from a watery grave as floodwater rose around their cage.
A desperate plea to save the birds was placed on the We LOVE Old Windsor Facebook page this morning. They were trapped in their hutch on Ham Island and the owners were away.
The message was seen soon after 10am today by Dave Wood and his brother-in-law Richard White, 47, who both live in the village.
They both work for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in Windsor where Dave is website and publications manager and Richard is programme manager.
Father-of-four Dave, 50, a former cub scout leader in the village, said: "We asked our bosses to leave and went over there. I waded through two feet of water to reach the chickens and we took them to Richard's house.
"He already keeps chickens and is able to look after them until the floodwater subsides."
