A new child friendly surface has been laid at Windsor's Bachelors Acre fountain after worried mums noticed the old one was cutting their children's hands.
Royal Borough councillor Eileen Quick (Con, Clewer East) said: "Mums whose children loved the fountain found they were getting little cuts from it and started a petition to get a new surface laid."
She said that her council colleague Cllr Natasha Airey (Con, Park) saw the online petition started by the mums and brought it to her attention - Cllr Quick is the Royal Borough's cabinet member for leisure.
Now the old resin bound pebble surface has been replaced by a rubbery, crumb type material that will not cut little hands.
