Raiders fled empty handed after smashing their way through the rear doors at Windsor Leisure Centre this morning.
They struck at about 1.10am using a scaffolding pole to smash in the double doors at the centre in Stovell Road. But the sound of the alarm caused them to flee empty handed.
The centre's manager Jez Spencer said that the site was well protected with any attempted break-in registering at once with a security company, whose men were on the scene within minutes along with the police.
He said: "Attempted break-ins are very rare here."
