MPs vote in favour of Heathrow Airport expansion

Councils disappointed with Heathrow Airport decision delay

MPs voted in favour of plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport tonight.

The House of Commons was asked to vote on the proposals after Government ministers gave the nod for expansion of the UK’s busiest airport earlier this month.

They voted 415 in favour with 119 against.

But Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson missed the historic vote despite previously stating he would lie down in front of the bulldozers to stop a third runway.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling described Heathrow expansion as ‘the biggest transport decision in a generation’ ahead of the vote.

In a five-point pledge to the country, he said any possible expansion would provide more than 100,000 new jobs and come at no cost to the taxpayer.

He added that the runway would be delivered within existing climate change and air quality obligations and said Heathrow could be punished with unlimited fines and grounded planes if it broke its pledges.

Royal Borough leader Simon Dudley failed to rule out legal action when Government ministers gave the green light for plans for a third runway earlier this month.

And of course apart from the fact that the work will take twice as long at least as forecast & cost 3 or 4 times quoted figures there will be lots of public money spent and mega profits for a Spanish company.

so they charge congestion tax to try and limit pollution, £11.50 then for older cars and to people who don't have the money for a newer car and extra £20 pollution charge and now ultra low emission in the centre of london yet more money all in a bid to lower pollution. but we can add a 3rd runway in the most congested area of the uk and 100,000 plus extra flights, more traffic on the roads which are gridlocked most of the time as it is and thats ok? makes no sense whatsoever.

More runways more flights, more noise more air pollution, more road traffic- Have any MP's driven past LHR into London because if so they would see that 3 & now 4 lanes in due course actually shrink down to 2 over the Hammersmith flyover- or is the flyover to be made bigger?? I wonder if aircraft flight paths go over Sonning.?
