Americana sound born by the fireside of a Sligo pub

Fresh from sell-out shows at festivals around the world, Rackhouse Pilfer will bring their unique sound to Maidenhead.

The Irish Americana six-piece folk band treads the water between Americana, bluegrass, Irish folk, alternative country and rock.

The band from Ireland have headlined Europe’s two biggest Bluegrass Festivals: La Roche Bluegrass Festival and Omagh Bluegrass Festival.

Songwriter and drummer Willie Kelly said that all members of the band have common ground, coming from musical families with a keen interest in country-style music.

“We've all got similar tastes in some things we can all agree on, and I think that carries through to what we play,” he said.

“We genuinely love what we do, nobody is in the band just for the job, we all enjoy the music we play.”

The band formed in 2012 by the fireside of McGarrigles bar in Sligo where they started playing unplugged sessions.

When Rackhouse was formed they became a regular fixture drawing a loyal crowd and the unplugged sound transformed with the introduction of a PA system.

The band plays about 200 gigs a year and is as happy playing quieter more intimate nights to big energetic ones – and is always led by the crowd.

“You can expect a fun gig, and lots of energy, we let rip most nights, especially when the crowd is up for it.

“We love those gigs where it’s a two-way street of positive energy between the crowd and us,” said Willie.

“Some nights it’s a little tamer, or more intimate and to be honest we love those gigs too, we never know what we’re going to get, especially in a place we have never played before, so we feel a sense of anticipation too.”

Really feeling the atmosphere and knowing each other means Rackhouse Pilfer never make set lists, instead going with the flow on the night.

Work was recently completed on their new album which is due for release later this year.
