Businesses and restaurants in prestigious Windsor Royal Shopping centre were without water for several hours this week.
A Thames Water team answered an emergency call from the centre's manager Sue Watts' office shortly before 9am yesterday morning.
Restaurants that included Cafe Rouge, Bar One and Carluccio were reduced to providing cold drinks and pre-packed sandwiches because staff could not even wash their hands.
The water was back on by 11.45am after it was discovered the main water valve serving the centre had been accidentally turned off by plumbers working overnight at one of the restaurants.
Simon Evans from Thames Water said: "We would urge all plumbers to take good care over which tap they turn off in the future."
More than 50 street parties are set to take place this weekend across the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and the surrounding areas.
An independent report into a Conservative councillor has found a breach of the Royal Borough’s code of conduct in a document seen by the Advertiser.
