New look for Windsor and Eton Relief Road

The renamed Windsor and Eton Relief Road began its new life with a flourish this week.

Royal Borough mayor Cllr Colin Rayner whisked away the plush blue cover to reveal the new road sign that told the world the main link road between Windsor and Slough was now officially called Royal Windsor Way.

There to watch the unveiling yesterday were Mary Bowers and Mary Hodgson - two of the three borough residents to come up with the winning name, when the Royal Borough ran a competition in conjunction with the Express last year. It followed the £9million revamp carried out on the road and attracted 150 entries.

Also braving the rainy afternoon to see the new name unveiled were Royal Borough cabinet members Cllr Eileen Quick and head of highways Cllr Phill Bicknell, along with chief roads officer Stephen Brown.

Altogether five new signs have been put in place.
