Eton's much admired new Jubilee Square is being overun by weeds already.
At last night's meeting of Eton Community Association concern was expressed at the speed with which weeds were outgrowing the plants.
But association member Christine Macleod - the headteacher at Eton Porny School - was not impressed to hear that members of the public were complaining.
She said: "People who don't like the weeds should go down there and do something about it themselves - that's what the Big Society is all about."
Association chairman Malcolm Leach agreed that members should take charge themselves and begin the business of weeding at once.
The Square is next to Eton Court and boasts neat new paving and a young acer tree.
It was designed by Eton architect town councillor Ron Lewandowski and is next to the Baldwin Institute at the junction with Eton Court.
It was opened last month by Eton College's provost Lord Waldegrave, the Mayor of Eton Cllr Philip Highy and Baldwin Bridgemaster Cllr Adam Demeter (pictured).
