Fireworks night returns to Maidenhead United grounds after five years

Hosted at Maidenhead United Football Club’s York Road Stadium, the event promises an evening of ‘joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories’.

A popular family fireworks evening will return to Maidenhead town centre after a five-year hiatus.

Hosted at Maidenhead United Football Club’s York Road Stadium, the event promises an evening of ‘joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories’.

The Family Fireworks Evening kicks off at 4.30pm with a celebration filled with ‘tasty treats’, a licensed bar, a ‘kids corner’ and a ‘spectacular fireworks display’ to finish.

Organiser Toby Denney said: “We hope this provides Maidenhead residents an evening where they can come to a local institution – a great historic ground – and enjoy games, nice drinks, sweets and treats, and make some nice memories with family and friends.”

He said it’s ‘taken time to get things back up and running’ as the club had stopped running the event even before COVID, which then ‘put an end to many places, events and regular schedules’.

“When we came on board with the football club, they were adamant to get going again with using the stadium for community events,” Toby added.

“Using the grounds for things other than football matches, having it be a real hub for the town and making the stadium a part of the town with a wider event schedule.”

The Family Fireworks Evening on Sunday, November 10 invites residents to ‘an enchanting evening under the stars’.

Hot chocolate and mulled wine are on offer as well as a variety of food and treat stalls offering savoury and sweet treats.

Stripes Bar will provide a fully licenced bar with a fan favourite, the Magpie Pale Ale, brewed at local Windsor brewery, Indie Rabble.

Elsewhere, the kids’ corner will offer face painting, games, and more for the young ones.

Children have been taken into consideration when designing the fireworks show, said Toby.

The display at 6pm starts with light-noise fireworks at the lowest possible decibel level and gradually increases in volume, allowing children time to adjust.

Tickets are £11 for adults and £7 for children under 14 while family tickets (two adults and two children) are available for £30.

The Family Fireworks Evening will support The Royal British Legion and local charities including Stand Out For Autism this year.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated, reinforcing the club’s commitment to uplifting the community ‘during this season of giving’.

“For the time of year, The Royal British Legion are the first to come to mind for the fantastic work they do – not just in the local community but around the entire country,” said Toby.

“We also as a local business, local employees and local club, would like to support a local charity as well – Stand Up For Autism being a fantastic one run by Holly Clarke and the work they do is really good.”

Looking forward, Toby said a Christmas market will be announced soon and a ‘full event schedule’ planned for next year.

“We’ve already revamped Stripes into a full-time sports bar that’s open every evening and on weekends with all manner of different live sports, dart boards and the like,” he said.

“We’re looking at all sorts of things from light displays and beer festivals – it’s all on offer and hopefully around the end of the year, we’ll have a full event schedule planned.

“We’re going to be expanding to use the ground for many other events throughout the year.”
