A very inaccessable ATM.
Another mysterious art installation has appeared on Sonning Bridge, joining a series of others.
Another mysterious art installation has appeared on Sonning Bridge, joining a series of others.
It is what appears to be an ATM, installed right above the water level, where only a daring (and perhaps foolhardy) swimmer would be able to make a withdrawal.
The installation is the latest commentary piece by anonymous stunt artist Impro.
Contacting the Advertiser, Impro said, in his characteristically cheeky humour:
“Banks have reacted to complaints about branch closures and accessibility by opening cashpoints on river bridges for boaters within minutes of Keir Starmer walking into No 10.
“The first is on Sonning bridge.”
The last Impro reported was a sleeping Santa who appeared passed-out on a park bench just to the north of Sonning overnight around Christmas last year.
Earlier in the year Impro struck with a ‘urinal’ just above water level on the pillar of a Thames bridge in a statement about the health of our rivers.
This new ‘River Bank’ addition to Sonning is part of a theme of similarly inaccessible objects, including a door to 10 Downing Street, and a post box, which has twice made an appearance.
Wokingham Borough Council has expressed its approval for the new art and others before it on X (formerly Twitter), celebrating the artist’s work with a timeline and a selection of pictures of all the artist’s contributions to the bridge.
These date back to at least 2013.
