We followed Dorothy (Scarlett Whitmarsh) over the rainbow to Windsor Theatre Royal’s Wizard of Oz, whose performance was worthy of her ruby slippers.
The cast left us in no doubt that Berkshire was left far behind, stopping first at Kansas and then onto Oz!
The performances of Scarecrow (George Russell), Tinman (Kyle Taylor) and Lion (Kieran Usher) demonstrated great comic timing, collaboration and polished individual song performances.
Ben Holmes as the Wizard left the reviewer thinking they we watching a young Lee Evans, while Susannah Williamson’s Glinda had an operatic vocal quality and Rowan Semplis as the Wicked Witch was deliciously evil with the right amount of added humour.
Rare Productions brought together a fantastic group of young people who showed courage in their performance, with intelligent choreography and heartfelt singing.
Sadly, it was over way too soon and in what seemed like three clicks of those slippers, we were back in Windsor once more, the audience cheering loudly.
