When there are only two people in a whodunit, it should be a lot easier to find out who done it.

But that’s not the (detective) case in Murder for Two in which one of the two actors plays police Officer Moscowicz and the other plays ALL the suspects.

Jeremy Legat performed in the show last year – its first British production – and despite living in Toronto, he is back for a new tour with his original co-star Ed MacArthur.

And the pair were delighted to be reunited...

“We were in the same audition, read scenes and played piano together so we’ve been there from the get-go,” he said.

“Ed’s lucky to play one character, I play 10.”

But Jeremy admits he does relish the challenge, even if it meant he had to bring a pencil case to rehearsals.

“I play all the other characters. I was using different coloured pens to highlight each voice in the script, I ran out of colours.

“When I first read it I thought I’m not going to be able to tell who’s who but I get to show what I can do.”

The fast-paced plot follows a famous novelist who is bumped off at his birthday party – all the guests become suspects as neighbourhood cop Moscowicz tries to solve the crime before the senior detective turns up.

It’s billed as a madcap blend of music, mayhem and murder.

Jeremy said: “It’s been described as the Marx Brothers meets Agatha Christie.

“There’s a bit of The 39 Steps style to it if you know that show – a chance for some brilliant showmanship.

“I think that having ‘murder’ in your title is intriguing for the audience.

“It’s a bit of a love letter to Broadway and film noir. There is plenty of comedy and pace and the music matches that.”

Jeremy, who grew up near Guildford, is looking forward to performing at the Theatre Royal Windsor.

“It’s going to be brilliant to play the show there. I’m really excited to be on my home turf."
