Disabled Maidenhead swimmer breaks British record

A disabled youth athlete has moved a step closer to achieving her dream of competing in the Paralympics after a championship performance that saw her become a British record holder.

Swimmer Katie Crowhurst, 11, from Maidenhead, who competes under the S13 classification for visual impairment, broke the record for the 200m Butterfly at the Buckinghamshire County Swimming Championships at the Magnet Leisure Centre on Saturday, February 6.

And after applying to British Swimming, the Cox Green School pupil’s achievement was officially confirmed  on Wednesday.

Mum Lucy said: “It's very special that Katie broke that record in the Magnet Leisure centre pool as that's the pool that Katie learned to swim in when she was a baby.

“We have had many fond memories of the pool there and we would like to thank the magnet staff who have always been very helpful to us over the years we have been there.

“It's thanks in part to the Magnet's disability policies and inclusion that have helped Katie get where she is today."
