Plans for a temporary campsite at Windsor Great Park for visitors to the Olympic Games have been cancelled due to a waterlogged site.
The Camping and Caravanning Club and The Crown Estate have scrapped it as it was impossible for any of the infrastructure to be installed.
They said waterlogged ground conditions after exceptional levels of rain made it inaccessible to vehicles.
Both the club and estate said they made the decision as they felt it would not be able to deliver a 'safe, comfortable and memorable camping experience'.
Deputy ranger of Windsor Great Park, Philip Everett, said it is 'regrettable' that both had to arrive at the decision.
He said: "We are fully aware of the disappointment that this will cause, however we have a duty to ensure that all visitors to Windsor Great Park have a safe and memorable experience, and we were not able to do this given the exceptional circumstances."
Campers who have pre-booked a pitch will be offered a refund or help finding an alternative location.
