Henley leapfrog rivals following second half onslaught

HENLEY 2nds leapfrogged High Wycombe into second place in the Counties 1 Tribute Ale Southern North Division last Saturday following their 38-19 home win against their Buckinghamshire rivals.

Wycombe started on the front foot and built pressure on the Henley defence but were met with a stern defence led by Barney Stentiford with some huge tackles, backed up by Zack Taylor, Roan Noone and Charlie Sichel.

However, a kick through caught Henley out and they were slow to react and allowed Wycombe to score out wide.

Henley bounced back when strong carries got them into the red zone where they were awarded a scrum, Jarvis Wood found Zack Goforth and it was the power of the centre that saw him touch down.

The home side allowed Wycombe in again when a drop in concentration allowed them to increase their lead to 12 points.

Henley bounced back with Ross Lewis showing his fancy footwork as he made his way through a maze of defenders before giving the inside pass to Taylor who was able to sprint in.

Henley then scored on the stroke of half-time to level the scores 19-19, skipper Charlie Sichel scoring after a good maul set-up and drive.

Henley had the momentum having just scored, and it was their scrum that dominated. Kaleem Niazi, Sichel and Nelly Kinniburgh forced the Wycombe pack backwards allowing Taylor to score his second of the afternoon.

Henley scored again when a powerful break from Kinniburgh saw him sprint in from 20m out. Wycombe came back and once again threw everything at Henley, but were met with a brick wall.

Wycombe got to within a couple of inches of the line but Henley cleared their lines three times.

Henley worked their way up the pitch to have the final score. Will Leach, who had had an impressive game at fullback and had moved to fly half, glided his way through the defence before giving the scoring pass to Goforth who was in support to crash over.
