A 60-year-old man has pleaded guilty to raping a woman in McDonalds in Windsor in 1986.
Alexander McGuire, of Sandy Lane, Bedfordshire, had previously been acquitted of the offence by a jury, but admitted the offence at Reading Crown Court today.
The police's Major Crime Review Team re-investigated the case under the Double Jeopardy legislation within the Criminal Justice Act 2003.
Forensic evidence secured during the medical examination of the victim at the time of the offence was re-examined using new DNA techniques not available to the original investigation team.
McGuire raped the 29-year-old on November 25, 1986, in a toilet cubicle at the Thames Street restaurant where she was working a late shift.
He was arrested at his home in July and the original trial verdict was quashed in December.
McGuire will be sentenced on April 20 at the same court.
More than 50 street parties are set to take place this weekend across the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and the surrounding areas.
An independent report into a Conservative councillor has found a breach of the Royal Borough’s code of conduct in a document seen by the Advertiser.
