Firefighters from Windsor, Slough and Langley rushed to Windsor Castle at 5pm yesterday when they received reports of a car fire near the Round Tower.
But fears of a second castle blaze similar to the 1992 disaster proved unfounded. The fire was out when the crews got there. Only minor damage was caused to the car and the owners were unhurt.
A firefighter said it had been worth their going out though, saying: "We don't want a repeat castle fire."
