The Conservative party has suspended Cllr Alan Mellins for ‘deplorable’ comments made about travellers.
Cllr Mellins suggested the solution for removing travellers from sites is to 'execute them'.
He made the comment at a public meeting in Maidenhead Town Hall on Monday.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Conservatives statement said: “Wholly unacceptable remarks from Cllr Alan Mellins have resulted in his suspension from the Conservative Party, and the removal of his positions held as a Councillor.”
Cllr Mellins chaired the Leisure Culture and Libraries Overview and Scrutiny Panel, and was a member of the Planning and Housing Overview and Scrutiny Panel.
The leader of the Royal Borough and its Conservative Group, Cllr David Burbage said: “Cllr Mellins’ comments are being taken extremely seriously. "Offensive remarks such as Cllr Mellins’ are not tolerated by the Conservative Party, here or anywhere else.”
Police are investigating Cllr Mellin’s comments. He is still a Royal Borough councillor for Cox Green. A petition has called for him to stand down.
