A mother from Old Windsor has been charged in connection with the death of her one-year-old child.
Kirsty Lee, 25, of Grove Close, Old Windsor, and her partner, Alistair Wayne Bowen, 35, of Drayton Road, Luton, have both been charged with several offences in connection with the death of Cara Lee-Fanus.
The charges follow an investigation by Surrey Police into the death of a young girl in Egham last year.
Police were alerted by staff at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey after Cara, who was approaching her second birthday, was admitted with serious injuries on May 28, 2014.
She was transferred to St George's Hospital in Tooting, London, but died the next day.
A murder investigation was launched by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team and a man and woman were arrested in connection with the death.
A post-mortem examination established the cause of death as a head injury.
Following an extensive investigation, Lee and Bowen have both been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child and causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child contrary to the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004.
They were charged today and are both due to appear at Guildford Magistrates Court on April 14.
