A bike owner was walking back to his bicycle in Peascod Street when saw a thief peddling away on it.
The owner ran after him shouting and a passing member of the public stood in the way of the cycling crook.
The thief fell off the bike and ran away.
He is described as 25-35 years old, of Mediterranean appearance, 5ft 10ins with dark stubble and wearing a dark flat cap, dark trousers and a grey gillet with red detailing.
Call police on 101 with information.
