Tennis fans inspired by the Wimbledon antics of Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams will not have far to go to find their nearest court if they live in Windsor and Maidenhead.
A new report by data specialists the Landmark Information Group has ranked the Royal Borough among the 10 most ‘tennis friendly’ local authorities in the country, based on how many of its residents live within 500 metres of their nearest tennis facilities.
The digital mapping firm found 53 per cent of people in the Royal Borough fell within the criteria, placing it 10th on the list.
By contrast, just four per cent of people living in the Orkney Islands have tennis facilities nearby.
Kensington and Chelsea came out on top in the study, with a whopping 71 per cent of residents living near to a facility.
Paul Blewett, Senior Product Manager of Landmark Information Group said: “The concentration of population in the South East is far greater than elsewhere in the country so it is not altogether surprising that the region comes out on top.
“Looking in more detail at the list of authorities across the country it shows, aside from the London boroughs, 16 out of the top 50 are located in the South East with more than 40 per cent of households within 500 metres of tennis courts.
“This makes the sport highly accessible for a large proportion of residents in this region who may want to take part in the sport, following the buzz of this year’s Wimbledon tournament.”
