Firefighters tackle lorry fire outside office block in Windsor

A lorry went up in smoke outside a Windsor office building this morning.

The Shred-it lorry was visiting offices in Madeira Walk to shred and recycle confidential documents when the vehicle started to smoke from the air vents on top.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 8.35am and sent one pump from Windsor and one pump from Slough.

Dave Woods, who works at the Duke of Edinburgh offices in Madeira Walk, said he thinks the driver called the fire brigade as they turned up 'really quickly'.

He said: "They quickly cordoned off the area around the lorry, opened the doors to gain access, which let a big cloud of smoke out, and quickly extinguished it."

He said the lorry was parked outside the office at the time but there was no danger to the building or staff.

The fire was extinguished using one hose reel and firefighters left at about 9am.
