A swan was left swimming in the river with a barbed fishing hook in its neck on Sunday.
Charity Swan Support received three calls about the distressed swan in the river by Barry Avenue at about 11.30am.
Wendy Hernon, who runs the charity, said it is not an uncommon incident.
This swan was left swimming in the river with the barbed hook still stuck in its neck.
Wendy said the injury on the neck shows that the hook had been pulled.
The delicate task of removing the hook was carried out and the swan was looked after by the charity and released back into the river on Tuesday.
She called on anglers to call the charity if they accidentally hook a swan.
“It doesn’t matter who has done it or how it happened, all I ask is for people to ring us,” she said.
