Windsor Castle unveils Christmas decorations to visitors

05:52AM, Friday 28 November 2025

Visitors to Windsor Castle will see rooms adorned with Christmas decorations from today (Friday).

In St George’s Hall, the biggest room in the castle, a towering 20-foot-high Nordmann fir tree, grown in Windsor Great Park, has been decked out with more than 3,000 sparkling lights and shimmering green and gold ornaments.

Dramatic garlands adorned the room’s balconies under the famous vaulted ceiling.

In the Crimson Drawing Room, one of the Semi-State Rooms which is only open in the winter months, stands a 16-foot-high Christmas tree.

Visitors will also discover a 45cm tall Christmas tree and festive garlands in Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, complete with ornaments made from glass beads, repurposed from vintage necklaces and tiny candles made with real candle wax.

The Undercroft Café, situated in the oldest part of the castle, is serving a seasonal menu.

£1 tickets are also available for visitors who receive Universal Credit and other named benefits.

Up to six tickets are available per household.

Visitors can also enjoy tours of the Castle’s Great Kitchen, the oldest working kitchen in the country.

The tours can be added on to a standard ticket on select days over the Christmas period.

Festive Family Fun activities are available during the Christmas holidays, inspired by Victorian traditions.

These will include arts and crafts activities where youngsters can make a Christmas momento to take home.

Local school and community choirs will also be singing Christmas carols on select days under the Christmas tree in St George’s Hall.

The income made from visitor admissions and purchases contributes to the care and conservation of the Royal Collection and aids the Royal Collection Trust in sharing it with everyone.
