Hartpury University 1, Holyport 2
Holyport have made it through to the preliminary round of the FA Cup after an impressive comeback against newcomers Hartpury University on Saturday.
Under grey clouds, both sides began the game brightly with Ramon Rose coming the closest to opening the scoring, his effort tipped over the woodwork.
Port fans then breathed a sigh of relief when a promising attack from Hartpury on the stroke of half-time ended in a goal kick.
However, two minutes after the restart, Mateus Santana was picking the ball out of his net as substitute Jake Champion nodded in at the back post.
Not allowing their heads to drop, Sam Lock’s men pushed their way up the pitch and got themselves level from a corner kick in the 66th minute – former Windsor skipper Luke Appleton scoring.
And with just minutes remaining – the clash looking like it was needing to be settled in a replay – Alfie Pendlebury grabbed the winner from the penalty spot to spark joyous scenes.
Holyport will go head-to-head with Yate Town at Summerleaze Park on Saturday, August 19.
