Pictures reveal impact of flooding in East Berkshire and South Bucks

Communities across East Berkshire and South Bucks have experienced the most severe bout of flooding since 2014 over recent days.

Windsor and Maidenhead council said today that river levels in the borough have passed the peak but are expected to remain high while the water gradually subsides.

The level of the River Thames reached 5.57 metres at the Windsor Park measuring station in Datchet yesterday.

This was just short of the 5.72 metres which led to more than 100 properties being flooded in the village during the devastating floods of 2014.

The riverside communities of Marlow and Bourne End also experienced disruption due to rising waters.

But Marlow town council leader Chris Funnell said the situation could have been ‘a lot lot worse’ were it not for flood defences which have been introduced by the Environment Agency since 2014.

‘Shocking’ levels of flooding have been reported in the North Town Moor area of Maidenhead – leaving many residential gardens underwater.

Road access has been cut off in Cookham while emergency services had to be called in to help evacuate vulnerable residents in Wraysbury overnight.
