2009: A 59-year-old accountant made his debut for Maidenhead United after winning the chance to register as a player at a charity black-tie sports dinner.

A chorus of ‘There’s only one Peter Upton’ rang around York Road as the Maidenhead man pulled on the black and white stripes in the reserve team clash with Hayes and Yeading United.

He came on just before half-time in the 3-0 defeat.

2009: A stuntman who doubled for Obi-Wan Kenobi in a Star Wars film taught children lightsaber skills in a movie action workshop at Clares Court.

Children were also taught how to roll safely and given lessons in unarmed combat by Andrea Petrides, who had also worked on four James Bond films and Gladiator.

2009: Champagne corks were popping in Maidenhead after home-grown football star Andy King helped Leicester City secure promotion to the Championship.

The 20-year-old former Furze Platt Senior School student played a key role in the promotion season –playing 53 times in all competitions.

He would go on to win a Premier League winner’s medal with the Foxes in 2016.

2014: A schoolgirl raised £1,100 for Cancer Research UK by having the sides and back of her head shaved at an Easter fun day at Larchfield Community Centre.

Emily Kinsella, 12, also donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

2019: The historic Monkey Island Estate finally reopened after an extensive refurbishment.

The estate had been bought by YTL Hotels back in 2015, and work was carried out to bring it back from a ‘dilapidated state’.

General manager Lee Kelly said: “A grade I-listed building from the 17th century is not an easy project at all.”
