1985: Star television presenters Frank Bough and Bernard Falk were at Boulter’s Inn to publicise their new joint company TVTV – Thames Valley Television – which was due to operate from the town.

The friends worked together on Nationwide and planned to base their new video, film and television venture in Frascati Way.

1990: Regulars crowded into The North Star pub to help Dee and Des Rooke celebrate 35 years behind its bar.

Dee and Des got their licence in 1955, after moving down to Maidenhead from Newcastle, where they had been running a club.

They took over the Westborough Road pub from the Harris family, who had been running it for 44 years.

1995: Triumphant athletes from the Windsor and Maidenhead Sports Association for the Disabled celebrated a National Lottery win to help make their clubhouse at Braywick bigger and better.

WAMDSAD scooped a £79,000 grant for their project, with members planning to make a start on building in the summer.

1995: Actress Jenny Agutter took centre stage at Cliveden to promote a two-week celebration of the National Trust’s centenary.

The festivities were due to start on June 25, with celebrities gathering to perform Shakespeare in Victorian dress.

Coinciding with the Cliveden Open Air Theatre Festival, Logan’s Run star Agutter was set to join Robert Hardy, Rula Lenska and newscaster Jan Leeming to perform scenes, speeches and sonnets by Shakespeare in the picturesque outdoor arena.

2000: Drivers were encouraged to get on their bikes as work started on a new cycle route.

Construction on two miles of the 2.5-mile cycleway linking Cookham and Maidenhead got underway.

Permission for the first part of the project between Cookham and Summerleaze Road was given by aggregates company Summerleaze and the National Trust.

2000: The England football team was in the area as they prepared for the start of Euro 2000.

Kevin Keegan and his players were staying at Burnham Beeches Hotel because of its proximity to the National Sports Centre at Bisham Abbey, where they were training.

Keegan and England stars Gareth Southgate, Gareth Barry and Kevin Phillips attended a press conference at the hotel.
