Maidenhead and Bourne End Chess Clubs are running a series of 'Improve Your Chess Basics' lectures, starting from Monday, September 9 and running through to Wednesday, October 2.
The four lectures will take place at the two clubs in Norfolk Road, Maidenhead and Wakeman Road, Bourne End (7,30pm start) and will be presented by active members of both clubs.
They've been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Louis Baylis Trust.
The lectures are designed specifically for newer players looking to take the step into the competitive scene - or those interested in trying out 'over-the-board' chess.
It is also ideal for individuals aiming to cement their understanding of fundamental chess principles and learn how to study the game most effectively.
With expert guidance from experienced club members, attendees will gain valuable insights and develop the skills needed to enhance their performance and enjoyment of chess.
The series of free lectures are open to the public with no club membership required.
Each session will begin with a 45-minute lecture, followed by an opportunity to play friendly games and apply what you’ve learned.
Complimentary hot drinks and snacks will be provided.

The lectures will be delivered by two highly esteemed members of the local chess community.
Andy Smith, a FIDE Master and the current British Over 65 Champion, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the sessions, having recently achieved remarkable success on the national stage.
Joining him is Steve James, a regular first-team player known for his deep theoretical knowledge and strategic insight.
Together, they will provide valuable instruction and guidance, offering participants an opportunity to learn from some of the best minds in the game.
