Busy Bees Maidenhead reveals transformed nursery after six figure refurbishment

A nursery in Maidenhead has been transformed followed a six-figure refurbishment.

Busy Bees Maidenhead has unveiled the newly refurbished nursery as part of its commitment to ‘providing high-quality early years education and care’ to Maidenhead families.

The Cookham Road nursery has been part of the community since 2003, and has been undergoing a major transformation since July 2025, investing £278,000 in new resources and furniture.

The refurbishment has been designed to be in line with the Bee Curious curriculum, which sees children feed their natural curiosity in engaging and playful environments.

The Bee Curious curriculum is centred around each child’s individual needs and adopts play-based learning to build confidence and spark imagination.

Alex McKean, centre director at Busy Bees Maidenhead, joined the nursery in May, and along with her long-standing team, they have more than 50 years of collective early years’ experience.

Ms McKean said: “Everything we do at our nursery is centred around giving every child the best start in life.

"We wanted to create playful environments that reflect children’s interests and provide spaces where they feel safe and supported.

“This transformation is a commitment to our children’s learning and development, and we know it will have a positive impact on their Busy Bees journey and preparing them for school and beyond.

"I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved, and I can’t wait to see children flourish in their new environment.”

Ms McKean and the nursery team spent an evening with families showing them the newly transformed nursery.

One parent said: “A big thank you to Alex and the team for the open evening, it was so good to be able to see inside the nursery and speak to the staff.

"It was noticeable how confident and friendly the staff were and how keen they were to show off the new resources and talk about the activities they do with the children.”

Busy Bees Maidenhead has a cohort of 66 children aged three months to five-years-old.

The nursery is part the wider Busy Bees group, which was formed in 1983 and opened its first centre in Staffordshire.

The early years childcare provider has 387 nurseries across the UK and Ireland, caring for more than 40,000 children.

In total, it cares for more than 75,000 children globally across more than 1,000 centres in 10 countries, including the UK, Ireland, Canada, Italy, USA, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
