The team behind a fashion upcycle competition in Slough are calling for local creative sewists and budding fashion designers to take part.

The Fashion Upcycle Show will be returning for its third consecutive year this September.

This year, the contest is once again open to two categories, including teenagers aged 13 to 19-years-old and anyone aged 20 and over, and the Slough Anti-Litter Society and Slough BID are asking people to get involved.

Participants are tasked with creating a new sustainable and wearable garment using pre-existing clothing, following the theme of ‘an evening out in town’.

The competition looks to promote creativity and sustainability by challenging people to transform old clothes or used materials into new and wearable fashion pieces.

Entries will be judged on visual impact, construction technique, design concept, creativity and use of recycled materials.

In total, 20 finalists will be selected to show off their garments on the Upcycle Runway on Saturday, September 13 in Slough Town Square.

During the event, the jury will choose the winner and runners-up, with the first place contestant receiving the prize of a one night stay at The Moxy for two people.

The prize for second place will include £100 one-for-all vouchers from Slough BID, while the contestant in third place will receive a £50 Tesco voucher.

Tirza Meinema of Slough Anti-Litter Society, said: “We are super excited to bring this back to Slough to reduce litter.

“Fashion upcycling is a great way to reduce waste and create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. It is also a fun and creative way to express yourself.

“I encourage everyone to participate in our fashion upcycle competition and show us what they can do.”

Rif Khan (Marketing & Events) of Slough BID, who are the main sponsor of the show, said “We are firm believers that fashion has the power to embody both style and sustainability.

“Through our lively upcycle fashion show, we highlight the ingenuity of transforming waste into stunning garments.

“The excitement continues as we proudly reintroduce this event following its successful debut for the third year running.”

Photos and videos of the new garments need to be sent in by 11pm on Sunday, August 31.
