The Rotary Club of Maidenhead Thames welcomed Royal Borough mayor Cllr Mandy Brar to their speaker event at a hotel in Maidenhead earlier this month.
Cllr Brar, who was accompanied by her consort Harry Brar, shared her journey to her mayorship role at the event at Fredrick's Hotel on Monday, August 11.
She also spoke of the people she has met since taking office in May, including volunteers, charity workers and youth groups such as cadets and scouts.
“I am constantly amazed by the energy, generosity, and commitment I see across our borough,” Cllr Brar said.
She has attended more than 50 events since May.
Cllr Brar explained the key duties of the ceremonial role include chairing full council meetings and representing the borough as its First Citizen.
She also provided an insight into the traditions surrounding the mayoral insignia, featuring the ceremonial mace, chains of office and robes, and explained how each element reflects centuries of civic history.
The insignia are displayed in the Mayor’s parlour in Maidenhead Town Hall.
Cllr Brar also shared more information about Citizenship Ceremonies.
During her 2025/26 mayoral year, she is fundraising for two charities alongside the Mayor’s Benevolent Fund.
These include Elizabeth House in Cookham and Thames Hospice.
She added: “I’m proud to help organisations that make a real difference to people’s lives.”
