Head coach Mobbs-Smith calls for 'Titanic' effort as Maids target their first away win

Head coach David Mobbs-Smith has described Saturday’s away game at London Scottish Lions as a ‘titanic’ fixture for his Maids side as they look to build on Saturday’s impressive 41-32 win over Wimbledon at Braywick Park.

Maids bounced back from disappointing defeats against Bracknell, Camberley and Jersey to come from behind for a thrilling and deserved home win against winless Wimbledon.

For the second time this season they ran in more than 40 points at home, but their away form has been less than desirable for a while now. That’s something Mobbs-Smith and his players will be working to put right against a newly promoted Scottish side who’ve been doing much better than many people predicted.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, the Maids coach said: “We have great respect for them. They’ve had an amazing start to the season.

“That’s going to be a titanic game for us away from home, but we’re hoping to put in another strong performance and see what it can get for us.

“We’re happy with how we’re performing, apart from maybe the CS Stags game. We lost to a very good side in Jersey and it’s very hard to stop them from scoring at home.

“We’ve got to hope that when we go into the games where we are going to be playing them. Naturally, they’ve created a different type of pressure for themselves. They’ve started so well and now they’ve got to maintain it. If you look at the teams in the bottom half of the table, there are teams who probably feel they shouldn’t be there. Wimbledon, Bracknell, Camberley. These are teams that will be thinking of themselves as top four aspirational. It will be interesting leading up to Christmas to see if we still see the same placings or in the next six matches is it all going to change.”

He added: “Looking at their form this season it looks like it will be a very difficult start.

“From the video footage and the scores of their games they are a very good side and have played some very good rugby in our league. We will have played very well if we’re competitive at their place.

“It would be lovely to get a good away win on the road. They hire the same place that CS Stags hire. It’s Kings House School’s facilities.

“They play out of there. Hopefully we don’t have the same scoreline.”
