Maidenhead Town Bowls Club hosts summer extravaganza at Oaken Grove

Maidenhead Town bowls club celebrated the longest day of the year with an outdoor summer extravaganza at Oaken Grove, its usual clubhouse location.

The special occasion on the 21st of June saw club members, both old and new, along with a handful of guests enthusiastically participate into the newly introduced game of Le Pétanque, also known as French Boules.

Le Pétanque involves throwing small but weight metal balls in a somewhat aggressive fashion at your opponents.

The Pétanque games were located in more than welcomed shade alongside the Oaken Grove clubhouse, on rougher grounds than a traditional well-manicured bowls green.

Maidenhead Town Bowls Club men's captain, Tim Eales, stated that the club fully intends to incorporate La Pétanque in the club's future. Saying, that Le Pétanque tested the skills of lawn bowlers and guests alike.

The club is well known for its barbecue catering which led to the prize giving and lively praise for the day's organisers.

Amongst the awards, commemorative ‘longest-day’ mugs were presented.

Tim Eales endorsed everyone’s keenness to repeat such lively club events in the future and stated that the occasions successful turnout proved the day’s success and demonstrated how the club is maintaining a healthy membership.
