Marlow’s Tyrrell Hatton will be hoping he can thrive in the ‘bearpit of Bethpage Black’, New York, the venue hosting this year’s Ryder Cup which gets underway on Friday.

Hatton has qualified automatically for the European team, despite playing on the LIV Golf Tour where events don’t count towards players’ Ryder Cup selection prospects.

Therefore, the Harleyford Golf Club member has qualified by virtue of his performances in this year’s majors, with the Englishman finishing fourth at the US Open and achieving top 16 finishes at the Masters and The Open.

His previous performances for Team Europe at Ryder Cups will no doubt have also played a part in ensuring his selection for what promises to be a gripping contest in New York.

Last time out in Rome he bagged three and a half points for the Europeans as he went undefeated through the competition, and Hatton will be looking to scrap and fight for every point going once again in what’s expected to be a big, brash atmosphere at Bethpage Black.

The golf club is said to have a distinctive character - not unlike New York itself - but Hatton is someone who has shown he isn’t intimidated by partisan American crowds, despite his own, often fiery personality.

Hatton has been in consistent form this season, helping his Team Legion XIII to the LIV championship and going close to several majors.

He also won the 2025 Hero Dubai Desert Classic back in January and was also a leading contender in his home event, the BMW PGA Championship before falling back and finishing in a tie for fifth.

The Americans will be favourites to win back the Ryder Cup on home soil, but Hatton usually thrives in this competition, and he will be hoping to play his part in a famous victory for Europe - similar perhaps to the 'Miracle of Medinah' back in 2012.
