Maidenhead Golf Course
The developer behind controversial plans to build up to 1,500 new homes on Maidenhead Golf Course is holding a public event – ahead of submitting plans for phase one.
Cala Homes is heading up the new Elizabeth Quarter project which would also see two new schools built, alongside a ‘Southern Local Centre’ and areas of public open space created on the land.
The site was allocated for development in RBWM's Borough Local Plan (BLP), approved in 2020, and plans have been heavily criticised by residents and campaigners ever since.
The Maidenhead Great Park campaign group has long campaigned for the space to be turned into a public park.
Cala Homes proposals were voted through at a tense four-hour meeting of RBWM’s Maidenhead Development Management Committee in February last year.
In December, the council published a formal decision notice granting the application, with a string of conditions attached.
An application of this magnitude comes with ‘reserved matters’ applications which provide more detail on specific aspects of the wider development.
The developer is now set to showcase the first phase of the development at a public consultation on Tuesday, February 24, ahead of submitting its phase one reserved matters application.
As stated on its website, Cala Homes (Thames) has started forming detailed proposals for the first phase, which will deliver 230 new homes, including 30 per cent affordable housing and public open space.
The phase will cover the south-eastern area of the site and will be accessed via the proposed new junction from Harvest Hill Road, the developer said.
The new homes are set to range from one-bedroom flats to detached four-bedroom houses and will be ‘predominantly two storeys in height’.
Some will be 2.5 and three-storey homes, located along the green spine, the website added.
The first phase will also include ‘existing and retained’ landscape features – ‘most notably the veteran tree and woodland along the eastern boundary’.
“Cala is committed to delivering a high-quality, landscape-led, and sustainable development that will provide much-needed new family homes and wider community benefits for the Borough,” Cala said.
The public consultation looks to showcase the proposals and gather the views of residents and businesses in the community.
Attendees will be able to meet the team, find out more about the proposals and provide feedback on the designs.
The event will take place from 2.30pm to 8pm at St Mary’s Church on Maidenhead High Street.
The website added: “Please come along to view our proposals for the first phase of development at Maidenhead Golf Course.
“You will be able to find out more about the proposals, ask questions, and provide feedback to members of the project team.”
A key condition agreed at last February’s meeting was for all reserved matters applications to be brought to RBWM's Maidenhead Development Management Committee panel for separate consideration.
RBWM’s decision notice also contains a condition stating that development would need to start within two years of the date of the approval of the last reserved matters application.
