A team of rowers will be bringing their eight-metre ocean rowing boat to Windsor this week ahead of their Atlantic challenge.
Team Excelsioar, consisting of Windsor-based crew Caroline Hague, Nicki Kelly and Rachel Smillie, will be bringing their boat ‘Dolly Parton’ to Windsor Royal Station on Sunday from 10am to 5pm
The trio will be using the boat, which has been built to withstand the Atlantic, to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic from La Gomera, Canary Islands to Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua and Barbuda.
As well as dealing with dehydration, extreme heat, sleep deprivation and the onboard facilities, consisting of a bucket on deck, the crew will have to contend with hallucinations, sharks and can expect to lose up to 12kg in weight.
The team are taking on the challenge to raise money for Thames Hospice and The Dash Charity and to aim to break the record for the crossing, whilst raising the profile of women taking part in endurance sport.
As part of their training the trio have already become the Guinness World Record holders for the furthest distance rowed in a 24-hour period on a rowing machine completing 286km.
Visitors can meet the crew and Dolly from 10am to 5pm on Sunday and donations are welcome.
