Maidenhead MP Theresa May enjoyed a sneak preview of the UK’s first Lego woodland themed holiday village ahead of its opening at Legoland later this month.

The former Prime Minister was joined by newly appointed Royal Borough mayor Cllr Simon Bond and other dignitaries to take a look behind the scenes at the £35 million Legoland Woodland Village on Friday, May 17.

The development, which is due to open to visitors on Friday, May 24, will include 150 accommodation lodges and camping barrels which sit amongst the trees on the 10-acre site.

The new village has officially achieved its Carbon Neutral verification from the Carbon Trust, showcasing its commitment to being operationally carbon neutral.

Costume characters Fox Costume Girl and Forest Elf were on hand with a bespoke Lego watering can made up of 3,604 Lego bricks.

The planting of trees will aid in ensuring the village becomes the first operationally carbon-neutral accommodation built by Legoland owner Merlin Entertainments across its theme park operations globally.

MP Theresa May said: “I was delighted to drop in to LEGOLAND Windsor to get a glimpse of the UK’s first Lego woodland themed holiday village, which will open later this month.

“Across Berkshire we are passionate about enhancing our natural environment, so it was great to hear Legoland’s woodland holiday village will be the first operationally carbon-neutral accommodation built by Merlin Entertainments across its global theme park operations.

“In March last year I visited the Woodland Village site during the early stages of development, and I’m pleased to have been invited back to see the fantastic end result of this work.

“With the opening of Legoland’s Woodland Village, our area welcomes yet another vibrant addition that promises to deliver significant recreational and economic benefits for the whole of Berkshire.”

Helen Bull, divisional director for Legoland Windsor Resort, said: “We’re now only one-week out from the grand opening of the Legoland Woodland Village which is huge milestone in the history of this iconic and most loved family theme parks.

“The £35 million investment is set to bring thousands of UK and International visitors to Windsor which will undoubtedly be a major boost to travel and tourism to the local area and follows the launch of our new rollercoaster, Minifigure Speedway last month.

“This project has all been made possible thanks to the support of the local council, RBWM, and we’re delighted that a number of councillors – including the new Mayor – joined us today.”

The village will give families the chance to relax in one of the 130 lodges or 20 camping barrels after a day of adventures.

Visitors will also enjoy campfire inspired dining under a twinkling tree canopy at the Clubhouse Restaurant & Bar.

New on-site play areas and a Lego nature trail will also provide hours of fun and exploration for junior Legoland rangers.

Prices to book a short break at the village start from £69 per person including entry to the Legoland Windsor theme park, a round of Legoland adventure golf and bed and breakfast.
