Moran not 100 per cent sure he'll be Slough Jets coach next season

Slough Jets coach Craig Moran has admitted he’s been given no guarantees over whether he’ll be in charge next season, but he’d  love to mould the club in his image.

Despite guiding the Jets to their worst finish in recent memory, Moran is keen to recruit new players and make the Jets a competitive force in the English Premier League (EPL).

He also brushed off speculation on social media that the club might choose to leave the EPL in favour of playing hockey in the English National League (ENL).

“There still hasn’t been anything in writing to say I’ll be at the club next season,” said Moran.

“Sometimes these things take a little while. It was a massive achievement for me to be the head coach and I’d love to finish my playing career by being given the role next season. I’m speaking with lots of players and there’s plenty of interest in coming to Slough, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

Whether he is coach next year or not, Moran expects Slough will have a budget that enables them to compete again.

 “Hopefully it will allow us to compete, and while we might not be one of the top sides hopefully  we can win a bit of silverware,” he said.

“If I am appointed to the role things should be a bit easier next year. It’s been a tough few months but hopefully we can build on that. It would be nice to pick the squad I want to pick, within budget.

“I’d love to have a fair crack  of the whip and see what happens.”

Noting the rumours on social media about which league the team will play in, Moran said: “There are a lot of rumours flying around but at the moment that’s all they are and I hope that we stay and play hockey in the EPL.”
