Slough Jets 5, Peterborough Islanders 0
Having played one third of their regular season Slough Jets remain unbeaten in league and cup and stretched that statistic with a 5-0 win over Peterborough Islanders at The Hangar.
Danny Milton pulled off a 29-shot shutout as the home side cruised to the points against below par opposition, who were a shadow of the team that pressed the Jets all the way in their previous encounter at home.
Lewis Tribble scored at either end of the first period, with Connor Redmond setting him up for the first before Tribble doubled the Jets’ advantage with a solo effort at 18.16.
The experienced Zoran Kozic then assisted two of his younger line mates Josh and Ben Ealey-Newman for goals in the 24th and 26th minutes to establish an unassailable lead.
The visitors created their own share of chances but a combination of poor finishing and fine net minding from Milton kept them off the scoresheet.
The Jets were stretched when penalties for Nat Darmanin and Andy Cox left them two men light for almost two minutes, however Milton kept the Islanders at bay.
However, in general it was a game of few penalties and the Jets look like they’ve started to address the ill discipline that’s been one of their few faults this campaign.
Their third line weighed in with the final goal of the game at 38.22 when Tom Gilheaney and Calum Heath assisted Jordan Ricketts for a finish from close range.
The hosts kept the visitors hemmed in during the final period, and frustrations rose to the surface for the Islanders with Sam Barlow given a 10-minute misconduct penalty and a brief bout of fisticuffs between Luke Martin-Digby and Peterborough bruiser Leon Groom which saw both receive minors for roughing.
Despite his shutout Milton failed to get the man of the match award, an honour that went to Ellis Shepherd for his part in thwarting several Peterborough breakaways but in truth this was an excellent all round team display.
*Tomorrow (Saturday) the Jets visit Gillingham to take on the Invicta Mustangs, who they beat 13-0 in September. Face- off is 5.15pm.
