Former Jets legends dust off their skates for celebration charity match

Former Slough Jets’ legends have been signed up to play in a charity game at the Hangar on July 19.

Last season’s head coach Craig Moran and Gary Stefan have convinced a number of ex-stars to pledge their support to the event, which will celebrate the history of the club, and raise money for good causes.

Jason Reilly, David Heath and Mark Howell have promised to play while Moran has persuaded Nick Chinn, Brian Biddulph and Joe Ciccarello to take to the ice.

Reilly started his 19-year-old career with the Richmond Flyers in 1987. He played 340 times for the Jets between 1995-2005, scoring 73 times and was part of the British National League winning team in 1998/99.

Heath played his entire career for Slough, was selected to represent his country at u18s and u20s level and scored 161+28 in 464 appearances.

Howell, affectionately known as Bulldog during his time with the Jets retired from the game in 1995 having scored 129 goals, and added 234 assists in 253 games. His number 18 jersey was retired by the club after he retired.

Nick Chinn had two spells with the Jets, the second as club captain and was a fans’ favourite with stats of 58+139 from 162 starts. ‘Chinny’ is still playing and last season guided Basingstoke Bison to the Premier Cup and Play-off trophy.

Brian ‘Biddy’ Biddulph will be remembered as the joker in the pack, but also as a fierce competitor. Joe Ciccarello’s career was ended by a knee injury in 2010, but he’ll be fondly remembered as one of the Jets’ greatest play makers and goal scorers.

Moran said of the game: “I’m really looking forward to the guys playing. This game is going to be the biggest thing in the Hangar all summer and we’ve got lots more names to come soon.

*A second wave of former legends have also agreed to play this week.

MartinJeneway,Ian Pound,PaulFerguson and recent Jets’ players DanScott, CiaranLong and Alex Symonds have been recruited to play.

The latest announcements boosts the tally of players in the event with the two teams set to have a good mix of youth and experience.

The club said the showpiece charity match promises to be a ‘great celebration of 28 years of the SloughJets as a top flight professional hockey team'.
