AFC Henley moved up to second place in the Oxfordshire Veterans League Division 2 after a convincing win against Goring GB 2022 Over 50s on Sunday.
Henley were 1-0 down at half-time following a goal in the second minute after goalkeeper Alan Draper allowed a low cross to bounce off his shins into the feet of an oncoming forward. In the second half Henley proceeded to score seven goals in 30 minutes. Initially, it didn’t look good for the hosts as a one on one in the 46th minute almost resulted in a two-goal lead for the visitors, but Draper atoned for his earlier error by first sending the player wide of goal and getting back up to save the shot at the near post. Following this scare, it was one-way traffic for the next
The second was converted at the far post by Antoni Fox following a good run and cross from Onisor. Further goals followed from Alex Brain (two), Mamas Stavrou, Onisor and Simon Hearn.
The visitors then scored a second following a one on one where, once again, keeper Draper let the ball slip from his grasp.
Henley saw out the rest of the game with no further drama to sit in one of the promotion positions going into the Christmas break.
